NORTHPORT — Saturday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m., the Lake Trio presents a program of works by classical composers, including Brahms, Beethoven and Rachmaninoff, at Bayside Community Hall, 813 Shore Road. The trio is made up of members Philipp Elssner, violin, Ben Maxwell, cello, and Jacob Wang, piano, who met at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
Elssner, a longtime Baysider, earned his BA from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied violin with Jan Sloman and Jaime Laredo. He has performed at numerous music festivals including Encore Chamber Music, the Bowdoin International Music Festival and the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival.
Maxwell recently graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music where he studied with Yeesun Kim of the Borromeo String Quartet. Maxwell was recently a member of the Tanglewood Music Center, where he performed with the Boston Symphony and attended master classes hosted by Yo-Yo Ma and other notable musicians.
Wang recently received her BA from the University of Michigan. After winning the Haeberle Prize and the Ronald Sachs Competition, Wang gave several solo recitals and participated in the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, Brevard Music Festival, MusicFest Perugia, and Aspen Music Festival as a Fellow.
As a trio, the musicians got their start in Maine before heading to Canada to continue performing in Montreal. This free program is sponsored by Bayside Arts.
