NEW YORK (AP) — Rocker Melissa Etheridge has found a new stage: the Grammy and Oscar winner will unveil a one-man show blending her music and off-Broadway stories.

“Melissa Etheridge: My Window – A Journey Through Life” will play 12 performances only starting October 13 at New World Stages, a multi-stage venue downtown.

“Although I’ve been telling the stories of my life through my lyrics and concert tours for many years, this is going to be something new for me,” Etheridge said in a statement.

“I can’t wait to feel the energy exchange and deep connection that comes from an intimate theatrical experience. It’s going to rock.”

Etheridge, best known for her songs ‘Come to My Window’ and ‘I’m the Only One’, has been fascinated by acting her whole life and even entered Green Day’s musical ‘American Idiot’ for eight shows in early 2011 on Broadway, replacing Billie Joe Armstrong.

Like Bruce Springsteen’s recent Broadway tour, his new show will feature songs and stories, “from tales of his childhood in Kansas to his groundbreaking career highlights – with all of life’s hits and the deep cuts in between. “, said the producers in a press release.

Etheridge’s career and life have had many twists and turns, including winning an Oscar for writing ‘I Need to Wake Up’ from Al Gore’s global warming documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, being diagnosed with cancer breast, coming out when the music industry was less evolved and receiving two Grammys.

The show was written by Etheridge, with additional material by Linda Wallem-Etheridge, his wife, and the co-creator and showrunner of the Emmy-winning Showtime series “Nurse Jackie.” It will be directed by Amy Tinkham.

Before hitting the New York stage, Etheridge will wrap up his national One Way Out concert tour and release a graphic novel “Heartstrings” with Z2 Comics.

Etheridge, Springsteen and Armstrong are just a few rock stars who have performed on New York stages in their own shows, a list that also includes Sting, David Byrne and Sara Bareilles.
