Small Business Saturday focuses on local stores



Small Business Saturday, the Saturday After Thanksgiving, is a nationwide campaign created in 2010 by American Express to remind people that in this day of online shopping and crowded malls, local businesses are also ready to meet their needs and to support their communities. Here are some cities and chambers of commerce that are promoting special events for small businesses on Saturday, November 27:

Cardiff: Cardiff 101 Mainstreet invites everyone to celebrate and support local businesses in Cardiff City Center, 2033 San Elijo Ave., and the surrounding area from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Take advantage of sidewalk sales, local specialties and pop-up shops. A limited edition print will be available for buyers who buy from certain companies. Call (760) 436-0431.

Carlsbad: The Carlsbad Village association sponsors Small Business Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the heart of Carlsbad Village. Featured, shopping promotions, discounts, live music and more. A free gift card (no purchase necessary) will be organized by the association for a chance to win one of 40 different gift cards valued at $ 2,500 for restaurants, vineyards and taprooms in the center -city. Local gifts will also be distributed throughout the day (while stocks last). Carmel Valley: Downtown Del Mar Highlands celebrates Small Business Saturdays with its Sip & Stroll from 2pm to 5pm on Saturdays at 12925 El Camino Real. Stroll through the center to enjoy sips and samples of cocktails, drinks and restaurant tastings. Participating businesses will provide special offers such as book autographs, free gift wrap with purchase, and more. Enjoy live music from local favorite The Heart Band, as well as plenty of other entertainment throughout the center. Sip & Stroll is free and open to the first 300 people who register at https://bit.ly/3DNc2EG. All guests are asked to purchase a gift from any business in downtown Del Mar Highlands to donate to Ronald McDonald House. Bring the item to the check-in area. Carmel Valley: One Paseo celebrates Shop Small Saturday with its annual 5 p.m. tree light and the start of its holiday toy drive. Tree lighting will feature a gospel choir, treats from One Paseo restaurants and snow from rooftops, plus special guests. One Paseo will also partner with the non-profit Home Start for a holiday toy drive. People can donate new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages from Saturday to December 13 at the “Gift Sleigh,” which will be parked in front of Parakeet Cafe. Del Mar: Celebrate Small Business Saturdays with Del Mar Village Dollars, a community-based e-gift card program that keeps local spending going. Starting Saturday, the processing fees on gift card purchases will be removed and buyers will receive bonus dollars on certain denominations (buy $ 50, get $ 20; buy $ 100, get $ 40; buy $ 150 get $ 60) while supplies last. Buy gift cards to use yourself or as holiday gifts; they can be redeemed at any of the more than 35 participating local Del Mar Village restaurants, retailers and service providers. Escondido: Buyers are encouraged to participate in a holiday bingo game. Bingo cards with a card of participating businesses will be available throughout the city. Shop, eat, and explore downtown Escondido to find pop-up performers, special treats, and sales, all while collecting stamps to fill bingo cards. Completed bingo cards will be entered into a random draw. Participating companies include Stone & Glass, Hawthorne Country Store, Grand Legacy Tattoo, The Grand Tea Room, The Photographers Eye Gallery, and Escondido Art Association. Fallbrook: A village craft fair will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in downtown Fallbrook, showcasing crafts and fine art. There will be free family activities, including live music and holiday dishes.

Leucadia: In addition to promoting small businesses and local artists with specials and sales from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays along the Coastal Road, Leucadia 101 Mainstreet hosts two outdoor music festivals. The first is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Leucadia Roadside Park, 860 N. Coast Highway. The music starts at 11:15 a.m. with CDME, followed by performances by the Encinitas School of Music at 12:15 p.m., and Mystery Train at 2:00 p.m. Following. The second festival is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., hosted by Encinitas4Equality at 1900 N. Coast Highway. North Park: Celebrate local businesses in North Park at the annual Small Business Saturday event. Get a free loot bag with a minimum purchase of $ 50 and proof of purchase from North Park businesses at the Explore North Park kiosk, 3067 University Ave. North Park Main Street will feature all local businesses, with a special focus on Black, Indigenous and Colored people and small women-owned businesses. Ocean beach: The Ocean Beach Business District invites everyone to celebrate Small Business Saturdays and “spread the OB vibe” by buying locally and winning local prizes, including an overnight stay at the Inn at Sunset Cliffs, gift cards to your favorite restaurants, OB seagull items and more. Enter to win a raffle prize from noon to 4 p.m. at the Ocean Beach Mainstreet Association storefront, 1868 Bacon St.

Ocean side: Downtown Oceanside Hosts’ It’s local shopping season from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The sponsors are MainStreet Oceanside, Oceanside Economic Development and Oceanside Chamber of Commerce. Enjoy tastings from breweries, wineries, and craft beverage makers as you tour downtown stores and listen to live music. Enter the Oceanside Holiday Challenge for a chance to win local prizes. For $ 25 in advance or $ 30 on the day of the event, you will receive 1 to 3 ounce flavors of local beer, wine, coffee, tea, craft cocktails or spirits.
